  • 0.6 mile(s) from Coney Island Beach, Coney Island offers an ideal summer respite from the hectic and steamy city.

With nearly 3 miles of sandy beaches, Coney Island’s sunny skies and rolling waves make for the perfect getaway.

If being active at the beach is more your idea of fun than just catching some rays, Coney Island also offers exciting recreation opportunities.

With courts for beach volleyball, handball, and basketball as well as playgrounds and amusement rides, the beach and boardwalk can provide hours of entertainment. Coney Island is also a great place to visit in the off-season.

Check out the New York Aquarium, the Abe Stark Ice Skating Rink, or the MCU Park (formerly KeySpan Park) baseball stadium where you can see the minor league Mets (the Brooklyn Cyclones) play ball. Additionally, don’t forget to keep a look out year-round for events at Coney Island.

One major highlight is the AVP professional volleyball tournament in the summer, but other equally exciting happenings pop up all year.

  • 0.7 mile(s) from New York Aquarium, PEAK SUMMER CROWDS HAPPEN ON WEEKENDS AND WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS: If possible, plan a visit to avoid peak times.

We are thrilled to see the excitement for our new exhibit, but please understand you will encounter large crowds and lines this summer.

Here are a few things to keep in mind: Mon, Tues, Thurs afternoons tend to be smaller crowds.

Camp group visits are heavy on weekday mornings.

Weekends are the busiest, and crowds grow throughout the day, so early arrival is best (we open at 10am).

When an Aquatheater show is running, it can be the best time to visit Ocean Wonders: Sharks, once the show ends, lines grow very quickly. In order to manage the crowd size inside the park, you may encounter longer lines and wait times at the entrance. Only a few areas are indoors.

Be prepared for sun and summer heat during your visit (sunscreen, hats, etc.) Parking is LIMITED (we can’t say this enough!).

If driving to the Aquarium, expect delays for traffic and parking lot temporary closures.
