  • 1.10 kilometer(s) from Tsar Peter's House, one of the oldest examples of Dutch timber.

Without the united efforts of Russia and the Netherlands, the cottage would no longer exist.

To protect the wooden cottage against the elements, a stone roof was added in 1823 with open arches, paid for by Princess Anna Pavlona.

After her death, she left the house to her son, Prince Henry.

Tsar Alexander III had supports added in 1890, as well as a stone foundation.

  • 8.00 kilometer(s) from Zaanse Schans, one of the highlights of the Netherlands, just outside Amsterdam.

Be part of a vibrant and stunning living and working community that dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

It’s packed with wooden windmills, barns, houses, and museums and built in the typically Dutch wooden architectural style, relocated here piece by piece since 1961.

The Zaanse Schans will easily fill half a day – there is so much to see, taste, smell, and experience! Take a walk through the stunning buildings and the unique peat meadow landscape.

Come and watch traditional crafts such as clog- and cheese-making or visit the windmills and traditional buildings.

Take a boat trip, dine in one of the restaurants, or explore the shops and boutiques.

Admission to the Zaanse Schans is free of charge, and some of the attractions you have to pay.

  • 1.00 block(s) from Zaandam Centre, Along the new canal in the centre of Zaandam, there is a variety of shops.

Many of them are newly built in the typical Zaanse, regional style.
