In the old brewing town of Ehingen on the Danube, the Best Western Plus BierKulturHotel Schwanen, Ehingen, Germany, is a charismatic hotel built around a working brewery, with air-conditioned rooms, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, a coffee machine, and most rooms opening onto a balcony. Down in the brewery guesthouse a hearty breakfast and traditional Swabian dishes share the table with home-brewed beer, poured in the summer beer garden.
Brewing workshops, beer spa, bike and e-bike hire, and guided hikes are all on offer at the desk, with massages to book for the evening. Ehingen calls itself a beer town, with several small breweries tucked among its old streets close to the young Danube.
The river draws cyclists onto long towpath rides, the spired old city of Ulm and its record-breaking church tower lie a short hop downstream, and the lakes and hills toward Lake Constance roll out to the south.
Quiet countryside surrounds the town.
