On the seafront of Lerici in the Gulf of Poets, the Hotel Shelley e delle Palme, BW Signature Collection, Lerici, Italy, fills a renovated nineteenth-century building run by the same family for three generations, with most rooms looking out to sea. A seaside restaurant carries the family tradition through three generations, and the bay laps right below the windows.
It makes a romantic base on the eastern Ligurian coast, with terraces over the water.
A small seaside garden and a sun deck round out the stay below the old castle. The bay drew Byron and Shelley two centuries ago and still charms with its castle, pastel houses, and swimming coves.
The painted, cliff-clinging fishing villages of the Cinque Terre lie a short train ride along the coast, and the marble quarries of Carrara and the beaches of Versilia spread to the south.
Ferries cross the gulf to Portovenere and its island.
